What can you use the app for?

Many people have something they want to learn and most of them assume they must go through a company or organization to do so. Betterfly presents a unique way to learn and gain knowledge using the expertise of others. The site connects people who want to “learn, look and feel better” with individuals who can help them. The site does not include companies, only individuals so the experience is one on one and more intimate. Users can get direct information and assistance from all sorts of experts, including teachers, coaches, stylists, and trainers.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Betterfly was founded in 2010 by Joshua Schwadran. Based out of New York City, the site was intended to give users a new, improved way to learn and be happy. Experts, who are viewed as “Betterists” can help users in a way that is more personal. Betterfly hopes that by taking companies out of the equation, it can create a better, more enticing environment for users to improve themselves with the help of an expert. Users can also compare experts, which gives each a level playing field for comparison.

What are the differences to other apps?

Anyone can search for a trainer, coach, or any other personal expert on the internet. Many of these individuals work through a larger company, which can sometimes make the experience feel impersonal. Betterfly presents a new angle on self improvement, by giving users a resource that provides only individual experts rather than large, money hungry companies. By reviewing individual experts, the user can get a better perspective on who is more skilled through direct comparison.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Betterfly website offers a welcoming format that includes colorful screenshots and just enough white space to make it very easy on the eyes. The color scheme is rich, using enticing textures that give it the appearance of a bulletin board. The search function is readily accessible at the top of the homepage. Everything about the Betterfly website invites users to join up and find experts that can help them improve.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can create an account by clicking on the gold “Sign Up” button found in the header at the top of the homepage. A blue Facebook button is also present for users that would like to link through Facebook. The registration form appears as a white pop up box, requesting a first and last name, email address, password, and zip code. The terms of use and privacy policy check box is automatically selected so the user only has to click the green “Sign Up” button at the bottom right hand corner to finish registering.

What does it cost to use the application?

Betterfly provides anyone willing to create an account access to its features for free. There are no costs associated with using the site and no subscription fees. Users can find Betterists without paying a cent. They can also become listed as a Betterist for free, as long as they have a skill, talent or passion that makes them capable of helping out. The site does not specify how it verifies this information. Betterfly is currently listed as in Beta, so whether or not the free membership status will change remains to be seen. For now, there is no indication that the site plans to request payment in the future.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Betterfly is an inexpensive way to help users connect with experts that can help them improve themselves. Anyone who has ever wanted to be better in some way can benefit from Betterfly. A search takes very little time and users can check out experts and see if anyone can help them with their desired change or improvement.

  • Search for Betterists and connect with them
  • Get listed as a Betterist and start using their expertise to help others
  • Browse lists that contain only individuals, no companies
  • Connect and login through Facebook
  • Review Betterists (as long as they are verified clients of that Betterist)
